Nicholas A. Pennipede Memorial Scholarship Winner: Sarah Baselews Spring 2023

Congratulations to Sarah Baselews, Fall 2023 Freshman in Psychological Science, School of Social Ecology, University of California, Irvine (FB), in Irvine, Ca.

Sarah is our Spring 2023 Nicholas A. Pennipede Memorial Scholarship winner! She received $1,000 from Eye Associates to apply toward her education.

Sarah plans to pursue a career as a middle or high school biology/science teacher with a focus on serving and helping the underprivileged student. Her challenges and barriers as an 8 year old US immigrant feeds her desire to ‘be there’ for her students who are underprivileged. She writes about her community service work:

"Serving my community through the Kids Ministry and Assistance league of HB has affected me in so many ways. These organizations ignited that spark to serve the underprivileged, specifically children. My experiences have taught me the significance a teacher can make on a soul. I desire to impact young people to work hard and find joy in this difficult world.”

“One of the great things about the Assistance League of HB is how they target serving the underprivileged. Many service events such as operation school-bell, provide new supplies to disadvantaged students. Serving here has guided my career path to becoming a middle or high school teacher.I understand the significant impact teachers have on students that extend to their families.”
